The digital temperature control is wonderful, but the power switch for the smoke is problematic. Bradley knows it's a problem, Why haven't they fixed it?

"Excellent value - excellent smoker." 2009-05-19
By A Fan (Chicago)
I've actually had this for nearly two years. My wife initially scoffed at my purchase, suggesting it would only be used a couple of times before it was forgotten. However, she's since come around and we use it frequently -- she actually uses it more than I do. We've probably put about 150 pounds of salmon and easily 600-800 pounds of brisket through it. In addition to ribs, turkey legs, sausage, potatoes and even eggplant.

My one complaint is that the fuse holder broke about a month ago (20 months after I bought it). I repaired it with a $1.99 fuse holder from Radio Shack and about 15 minutes of labor -- by no means is this a deal-breaker, but at the price they could have sprung for a more durable component.

All-in-all the ease of use of this la-z-que is unbeatable. I can put a brisket in before I go to bed, load the feeder tube with pucks, set the temp and know it'll be perfect when I wake up.

"Excellent - no hassle smoker" 2009-01-03
By JH (GA)
I've owned the OBS for about a momth now and have smoked all kinds of meat. It's so simple and easy that I know I will be using it far more frequently than a standard smoker just because it's easy. I'm able to run it on my deck without worry of torching the house since it cooks with electric element.

One of the cons of this product as I was researching it is that you have to buy Bradley's wood chips (biscuits) to use in the feeder mechanism and the cost associated with that. I don't see that as a problem at all since you'd be spending money for charcoal and or standard wood chips anyway. True that running this unit would be a bit more expensive than another electric smoker. But, it's well worth the additional operating cost to be able to run an overnight smoke without having to get up in the middle of the night several times to add wood for smoke or stoke a fire.

One last thing....if you're comparing the Original Bradley to the Digital Bradley; buy the Original and purchase the Auber digital PID with it instead of buying the Digital Bradley. The Auber digital component is a plug and play digital temp control unit that is much more accurate than what is provided with the Digital Bradley. I find on the Bradley forum that many who bought the Digital Bradley end up purchasing the Auber PID to override the standard Bradley digital component anyway.

 " my first smoker" 2008-09-04
By Keith Mckee (East Rutherford NJ USA)
I have wanted to buy a smoker since last year but could not decide on which one. I originally thought I wanted charcoal, then gas but I decided on the electric. I am so glad I did. It is definatly a lazy mans smoker. I only have had it for a week but I used it 4 times and I love it. I made Wings and my guests have said that it was the best wings they have ever had. The meat fell off the bone. The main reason I bought it was for Sunday Footbal games. I usually have about 8 people over and this will fit enough food to fill us. If you cant decide on which smoker to buy I suggest this one. It is not the cheapest smoker and you do have to buy Bradleys wood chips but you wont be disappointed. Just preheat it,set the timers, season the meat, put it in the smoker, grab a beer and watch the game. You do not have to check it at all.

"Smoking made elementary but will never crisp the skin." 2008-01-14
By Daniel
I have one and I love it. Its effortless with the smallest amount of maintenance so far, just keeping that box clean and free of debris is the most youll have to do. As for the smoke, the flavor is spot on. When it comes to smoking birds, youll never get the thing up high enough to crisp the skin like a charcoal smoker. Yes sometimes a smoker wants high temps. This little baby will never do it, not on its own. But when it comes to cold smoking or smoking at 220ish to 240, this baby cant be beat for the ease of use and perfect meat flavor. If you got the cash pick her up.

I bought the water smoker cover to protect my outdoor George Foreman grill on my deck. The product description said it all (I thought:) HEAVY DUTY. The item which arrived was of a thin material which has already blown off the grill twice. I'm already searching locally for a product which I can actually touch to replace the grill cover. In short, I'm not pleased.

"Great addition to my Weber gas grill!" 2009-07-14
By M. Knox (Jefferson City, MO)
I purchased a Genesis E-310 Propane Gas Grill in June 2008 and have been looking for a way to add wood smoke flavor when cooking chicken or pork steaks. I saw this smoker advertised last year but wasn't sure if I was willing to take a chance and purchase it until I read some reviews about it. Based on the above reviews I went ahead and bought it and have been extremely pleased with how well it works. It fits perfectly on the grill and creates a lot of smoke flavor. I highly recommend it!

 "Does the job" 2009-06-22
By R. Romero (Los Angeles, USA)
Unit sits directly on the flavor bars so it heats up fast and creates very good smoke. I did have a couple of flare ups but that was easily handled with some water.

Pros:

- Good fit, works well as designed.

- Gets hot fast and creates good smoke.

- Looks like it will last.

Cons:

- The grill it comes with is a steel grill that replaces your left grill panel. I would give it 5 stars if it would have come with a matching grill for the Genesis. Grill is good quality so it's not really an issue.

- Be careful when placing the chips in the box, if you get them behind the door, the door will not close. Easily taken care of with tongs.

"Works great looks great with my grill!" 2009-03-18
By David Asche (Atlanta)
I have the Weber Genesis grill Weber 3741001 Genesis E-310 Propane Gas Grill, Black and wanted a smoker. I had a generic smoker box and it sits on top of the flavor bars and never got very hot so very little smoke. The Weber Smoker puts the wood chips directly on the flavor bars getting them hot very fast and producing a lot of smoke. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is they say to clean the ash out after each use but much of it tends to fall into the bottom of the grill due to the large openings of the bars. I still highly recommend this product.

 "Work's Well. Won't Last!" 2009-06-24
By K. Abbott (Arlington, TX)
I have had one of these for 2 years now. I don't use it much, but when I do, it's really nice. The maximum temp of 275 degrees will bake perfect potatoes in 2 hours, and it's got to be the most trouble-free way to create a smoked meat masterpiece.

However, in the 2 years I've owned mine, I have had to pull the back off twice and repair the wiring. Apparently, the trouble with wood chip flare-ups that caused it to be recalled (that's right!) also caused it to burn up the insulation behind the thin metal wall in the back of the unit. This seems to have also burned out my wiring - twice.

Fortunately, I'm handy enough to fix it. Now that the grate that holds the wood chips over the heating element has rusted out, I seem to be hard-pressed to find a replacement. Looks like I'll have to fashion some sort of grate to replace that, as well.

People rave about the barbecue pork shoulder I can do in this thing, and it's super easy. Just don't expect it to last very long.

 "Texan's Opinion" 2009-06-24
By John H. Raach
Before I bought this smoker I read many, many of the yahoo reviews for this and other smokers (they're pretty accurate to my experience). I also own a non-electric smoker. And my final qualification is that I'm from Austin...

GOOD - The construction is very solid, but you shouldn't treat the latch to shut the door roughly. The temp is perfect - validated by my internal device. The temp goes high enough to cook anything. There's plenty of room for everything. You can cook a brisket for 20 hrs. on a low temp, and let it cook in its own delicious fat - man it's good.

BAD - It doesn't smoke like crazy. Smoke won't billow-out like a non-electric. You'll have to smoke at a high temp to burn the wood chip sufficiently, and even then I haven't seen them do anything but dry-out. Actually, this is perfect for me because I don't want to meat to have a super-smoky taste. I'm more of a marinade guy.

Good smoking!

 "Fine until it breaks" 2009-06-16
By J. Richter (Tucson, AZ USA)
This is a good product...until it breaks. My heating element went out so I thought it would be simple to get a replacement. I was wrong. The sympathetic people in Customer Support told me the heating element cannot be replaced. The entire unit except for the racks and electronic control had to be replaced. They said they could not quote me a cost since they had no replacement units in stock but hoped to get some in stock "in a few months". So if you buy this product expect to throw it away in a year or so!

 "Great smoked pork shoulders" 2009-06-03
By Robert G. Duke (APO, AP)
I agree with most of the comments about how nice this unit smokes food.

I can load it at lunch one day, take the food out the next morning to carry to work for a party at noon that day.

Cons;

My heating element stopped after 2~3 years of use. Masterbuilt wanted $80 plus shipping for a new "body" were I would have to move my rack, door, electronics over. After nearly 3 years of use, I was not ready to move those old items into a new box at nearly 1/2 the cost of a new unit.

I pulled the back off and found a broken wire on the heating element, replaced and rivited it back together and I continue to smoke some of the best pulled pork I have ever found.

The family has stopped going to the local pulled pork joints in the area and co-workers order pork shoulders for their parties.

Also I have lost 2 of the wire racks since I removed them to make room for the larger pork shoulders I find at Sams club.

The water pan has pitted and now leaks unless I line it with foil.

Planning on selling it to a co-worker while I locate the larger model.

Enjoy!

This thing really works! I've only used it a few times and am still trying to figure temperature times but my salmon and ribs came out well. Great smoke flavor.  "Smoke your foods with less effort and less time" 2009-04-24
By Z~
This stovetop smoker is amazing. We currently own the Char Broil Silver Smoker and it take 5+ hours to smoke fish and meats. The stovetop smoker can achieve the same results in about 30-40 minutes. I love using different varietities of the smoking chips and foods come out tender, juicy and full of flavor. Clean up is simple since I use foil to line the bottom of the drip pan. All I have to do is toss out the smoking chips ashes, peel back the aluminum foil, give it a quick wash and rinse to get any moisture or any food splatter on the lid and store it until the next use. This unit does not fill your house with smoke but you can smell the wonderful aroma of cedar, apple, mesquite or whatever flavor of chips you use.

Since I have a smooth top stove and do not want to scratch the surface, I use the stovetop smoker on top of Sanyo HPS-SG3 200-Square-Inch Electric Indoor Barbeque Grill, Black and also use it on with my Weber 586002 Q 320 Portable Outdoor Gas Grill. Using it on the Weber Grill gets slower cooking results but it is great to take to picnics and camping to smoke up those fish you catch!

I bought this for my husband for our Anniversary (tin/alluminum). He loves to cook, but doesn't do it very often. I have not personally used it, but my husband says it is very easy to use. I can, however, vouch for the taste...YUMMY! He has made chicken and pork ribs in the smoker and they were delicious.

It doesn't fill the house with smoke, but if you put in hot peppers or hot spices with the meat, it will choke you. You may need to open windows and doors.

This is a great cooker , I've cooked on a lot of smokers and this one is the best.

First cook was 2 pork shoulders and it could not have gone better.

You can dial this in to 225 degrees and it will hold that temp overnight.

Put the pork on at 9 pm and it was ready to shred at 9am. The best part?

I did not have to get out of bed to check on it! Kudos to weber on the WSM !

"Excellent smoker - Hard to keep temperature low" 2009-06-13
By K. Scandrett (St. Louis, MO)
Really like the smoker. Two issues: 1) The door doesn't seal tight and lets smoke out and air in. 2) Hard a tough time keeping the temperature in the 200-250 degree range. I suspect that the "leaky" door may be the problem by letting air in even when the other vents are closed.

One suggestion also, the owner's manual says you need about 300 brickquets to cook a rack of ribs. I've only cooked ribs once, but I suspect you could get by with 1/2 that amount.
