"Inexpensive Motorcycle Glove" 2009-10-16
By MikeW (Mission Viejo, CA USA)
Though not the intended purpose, I got these for a light weight summer motorcycle glove. Fortunately, I haven't crashed to try them out, but they are holding up very well with daily use. They vent pretty well for full finger gloves. The gloves are very flexible for riding gloves (I haven't used them as mechanic's gloves) and I can put on my helmet and buckle it with these gloves on. They work great for what I got them for (so far, so good!).
"Not as pictured..." 2009-10-13
By B. Jones (clt, nc, usa)
Don't you hate it when you find something you really like, and when you wear it out and want to replace it with the same it is no longer available?? I bought 2 pair of these gloves based solely on what was pictured because I owned a pair and they provided a great fit, were long lasting and durable! I also loved the 'skeleton' look of the Stealth. I had seen the new version (what I received) in stores and was not impressed. IMO, the wrist closure has a cheap velcro closure, doesn't have decent loops to hook to anything, and seem to be lacking the padding of it's predecessor. Also, Stealth became Covert (all black). We'll see how they hold up
"Last longer than regular Mechanix gloves..." 2009-01-21
By Private Amazoner (Mobile AL)
That about sums it up. A lil thicker, hair bit more cumbersome, but last longer. I smashed my hand with a hammer today in these gloves. Didn't hurt a lot.
"Mi tercer par" 2008-11-17
By Alfredo Ruiz (México)
"Thick, protective, though bulky and significant loss in dexterity" 2008-08-24
By D. Vu (Winter Park, Florida)
I'm a former USAF F-15 Crew Chief and found these worked okay on the jet, giving me security when reaching inside the various doors and panels and not getting burnt or scratched up, but for doing work on my bike as well as using them as protective gloves as riding they're far from ideal. I often have to take a glove off to do something simple.
They fit a little loose on me (finger lengths a bit too long) and aren't ugly, but they are bulky and they can't do micro adjustments and have difficulty doing stuff such as handling small objects such as washers, nuts, and pins. I have to take them off to go into pockets since the backing likes to catch on everything. They can't deal with the buttons on my Sansa e260 MP3 player and even have trouble putting the earbuds in.
These are a bit overprotective in the wrong areas for almost all occupations. A lumberjack that has to do a lot with brush and branches could possibly make use of these if they didn't catch. A firefighter too maybe for at least a few of their tasks, not full-time. A carpenter prone to smashing their fingertips with a hammer... oh wait, there's not much protection there. As a Crew Chief, I went a long time just using the blue/purple Nitril medical exam gloves and a rag for most things, like handling HAZMAT. I could've easily went the rest of my enlistment without them.
The original Mechanix gloves are superior in every way except for protection. When you need protection for something like heat, you'd grab extra anyways, like a rag.
